Sonic the Hedgehog 3
After his defeat in Sonic 2, that no good Dr. Robotnik has tricked Knuckles the Echidna into believing Sonic and Tails are the bad guys and that they are trying to steal the Chaos Emeralds. This leads to Knuckles acting as a bad guy for much of the game. Released in 1994, this was a great way to complete the Sonic triology on the Sega Genesis.

When Sonic 2 ends, Robotniks Death Egg is knocked out of outer space and crashes down on Earth. As it turns out, the Death Egg crashes onto a mystical island known as the Floating Island. As luck would have it, there just so happens to be a MASSIVE Chaos Emerald chilling underneath the Floating Island (what are the odds?!). With this new knowledge gained, Robotnik - wait for it, wait for it - once again seeks out those darned Chaos Emeralds with the hopes of reconstructing his awesome Death Egg and catapulting it into orbit once again. Okay so the plot is a bit weak but hey it is for kids and these games are meant to be simple right? I mean just look at Mega man.

Now as you might expect, Robotnik needs some allies and where better to look than the islands animals? He uses his evil plotting and planning ways to turn the islands animals into badniks.

Sonic 3 introduces some new moves for our heroes. Sonic can now use the Insta-Shield and Tails can now fly and also lift Sonic while flying.

There are once again 6 zones to get through just like Sonic 1 but the difference here is that in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the zones are bigger, badder, meaner and full of more twists, turns, and secrets. Yes, that is right. There is more exploration in Sonic 3 and hey that is a good thing.
